{"id":21254,"date":"2021-04-08T09:36:49","date_gmt":"2021-04-08T13:36:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/?p=21254"},"modified":"2025-01-06T12:50:55","modified_gmt":"2025-01-06T17:50:55","slug":"how-to-configure-pings-in-room-alert-manager","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/21254\/how-to-configure-pings-in-room-alert-manager\/","title":{"rendered":"How To Configure Pings In Room Alert Manager"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Room Alert Manager can ping a target IP address or domain every 15 seconds and report its state as <em>Up<\/em> or <em>Down<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"su-row\"><div class=\"su-column su-column-size-1-2\"><div class=\"su-column-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n\n\n\n<p>Room Alert Manager treats pings similarly to Room Alert Monitors \u2014 you may sort pings into <a href=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/20186\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">device groups<\/a>, configure <a href=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/20409\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">alerts<\/a> on them and <a href=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/21144\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">graph<\/a> them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Pings are made up of two components:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>1. <strong>Ping Device<\/strong>: serves as the container for one or more ping sensors <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Ping devices appear in an <em>Inventory List<\/em>, as well as in device drop-down menus when editing alerts and <a href=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/22823\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">data groups<\/a>.<\/li><li>In the example shown here, ours is called &#8220;Example Ping Device.&#8221;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>2. <strong>Ping Sensor(s)<\/strong>: monitor an individual IP address or domain<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Ping sensors appear in sensor drop-down menus when editing alerts and data groups.<\/li><li>In the example shown here, our ping device contains 2 ping sensors: &#8220;Example ICMP Ping&#8221; and &#8220;Example HTTP Ping.&#8221;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<\/div><\/div> <div class=\"su-column su-column-size-2-2\"><div class=\"su-column-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/RAMExamplePing.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/RAMExamplePing.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21418\" width=\"450\" height=\"311\" srcset=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/RAMExamplePing.png 847w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/RAMExamplePing-300x208.png 300w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/RAMExamplePing-768x531.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n<\/div><\/div> <\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">To configure a ping in Room Alert Manager, please follow these steps: <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol id=\"block-74349ddf-edf2-4c12-9c0a-b18769097507\"><li>Open Room Alert Manager in your web browser.<ul><li>You may open it by entering \u2018localhost:9393\u2019 or \u2018&lt;IP address of host system&gt;:9393\u2019 in your browser\u2019s address bar. We called ours &#8220;Example HTTP Ping.&#8221;<\/li><li>In <em>Target URL<\/em>, select with HTTP or HTTPS from the drop-down menu. Then enter the address you wish to ping.<\/li><li>In <em>Target Port<\/em>, you may leave the default value, which is 443 for HTTPS or 80 for HTTP.
