{"id":19510,"date":"2020-10-15T13:06:03","date_gmt":"2020-10-15T17:06:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/?p=19510"},"modified":"2021-06-07T08:16:07","modified_gmt":"2021-06-07T12:16:07","slug":"what-to-do-if-email-from-room-alert-manager-is-not-working","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/19510\/what-to-do-if-email-from-room-alert-manager-is-not-working\/","title":{"rendered":"What To Do If Email From Room Alert Manager Is Not Working"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A number of things can happen that prevent email from reaching you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Room Alert Manager could not connect to your mail server.<\/li><li>Room Alert Manager did (1) but could not log in to your mail server.<\/li><li>Room Alert Manager did (1) and (2) but could not hand off the email to your mail server.<\/li><li>Room Alert Manager did (1), (2) and (3), but your mail server didn&#8217;t deliver it. <ul><li>Your mail server does not relay mail to other mail servers.<\/li><li>Your mail server categorized the mail as spam and did not deliver it.<\/li><li>Your mail server did not recognize the recipient address. <\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Room Alert Manager did (1), (2) and (3) and your mail server did (4), but you can&#8217;t find it. <ul><li>Your email application categorized it as spam and deleted it.<\/li><li>Your email application categorized it as spam and put it in your spam folder.<\/li><li>Your email application obeyed a filter and put it in a folder other than your in-box. <\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>If you expect an email from Room Alert Manager&#8211;either a test email or an alert email&#8211;and don&#8217;t receive it, please check the following things:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"su-accordion su-u-trim\">\n\n\n<div class=\"su-spoiler su-spoiler-style-fancy su-spoiler-icon-plus su-spoiler-closed\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-anchor-in-url=\"no\"><div class=\"su-spoiler-title\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><span class=\"su-spoiler-icon\"><\/span>Are your SMTP settings in Room Alert Manager incorrect or outdated?<\/div><div class=\"su-spoiler-content su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n\n\n\n<p>If any of the fields in the Settings&#8211;&gt;Email page in Room Alert Manager are incorrect, including simple typos, email will fail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proofread your Email Settings in Room Alert Manager by following these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Open Room Alert Manager in your web browser. You may open it by entering \u2018localhost:9393\u2019 or \u2018&lt;IP address of Room Alert Manager\u2019s host system>:9393\u2019 in your browser\u2019s address bar.<\/li><li>Next, navigate to the <em>Email Settings<\/em> page.<\/li><li>Check for the following issues: <ul><li>Is the <em>Mail Server<\/em> domain (or IP address) typed correctly? Has the actual domain or IP address of your mail server changed since you last put in these settings?<\/li><li>If your mail server uses TLS, is <em>Use TLS Encryption<\/em> checked?<\/li><li>Is the <em>Port<\/em> number you see the one your mail server actually uses? (Note that port 465 is generally used with SSL and port 587 is generally used with port 587, though its not an absolute rule.)<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Have you entered credentials under <em>Use Authentication<\/em> to log into the mail server? Is the <em>Username<\/em> and Password typed correctly? <\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"su-spoiler su-spoiler-style-fancy su-spoiler-icon-plus su-spoiler-closed\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-anchor-in-url=\"no\"><div class=\"su-spoiler-title\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><span class=\"su-spoiler-icon\"><\/span>Does your mail server disallow SMTP relaying?<\/div><div class=\"su-spoiler-content su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n\n\n\n<p>If your recipient&#8217;s email address has a different domain than your mail server, that mail server must allow SMTP relaying in order for it to get through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mail Server: mail.example.com<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recipient: itmanager@yourorganization.com<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this case, the mail server is on <em>example.com<\/em> and the recipient is at  <em>yourorganization.com<\/em>. The <em>example.com<\/em> mail server needs relaying enabled, or it won&#8217;t hand the email over to the <em>yourorganization.com<\/em>&nbsp;mail&nbsp;server.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"su-spoiler su-spoiler-style-fancy su-spoiler-icon-plus su-spoiler-closed\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-anchor-in-url=\"no\"><div class=\"su-spoiler-title\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><span class=\"su-spoiler-icon\"><\/span>Is your firewall, antivirus program or proxy server blocking Room Alert Manager's connection to your mail server?<\/div><div class=\"su-spoiler-content su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n\n\n\n<p>Does your firewall, antivirus program or proxy do any of the following to Room Alert Manager?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>block traffic from it to your mail server&#8217;s SMTP port?<\/li><li> prevent it from talking to the Internet? Is your mail server on the Internet, outside your local network? <\/li><li>prevent it from talking to your DNS server? Did you enter a domain for your mail server that Room Alert Manager is therefore unable to resolve?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"su-spoiler su-spoiler-style-fancy su-spoiler-icon-plus su-spoiler-closed\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-anchor-in-url=\"no\"><div class=\"su-spoiler-title\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><span class=\"su-spoiler-icon\"><\/span>Did the mail end up in your spam box or get filtered to another folder?<\/div><div class=\"su-spoiler-content su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n\n\n\n<p>Have you checked your spam box for the email?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you have filters set that would move the email out of your in-box to some other mail folder?<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need additional assistance, you may send Room Alert Manager&#8217;s email log to our Technical Support Team.<br><br>Please go to Room Alert Manager&#8217;s installation directory, C:\\Program Files\\AVTECH Room Alert Manager by default. Navigate to the <em>home &#8211;&gt; log<\/em> folder and locate the <em>notifications-email.log<\/em> file.
