Typically, these issues can\u00a0be resolved with a little troubleshooting.<\/p>\n<p>The tabs below list some of the reasons a firmware update might fail, potential symptoms of a failed firmware update, as well as troubleshooting steps.<\/p>\n<p><em>* Please note that the Room Alert 32S, 12S &amp; 3S are not compatible with Device ManageR or the Device Discovery utility.<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"su-tabs su-tabs-style-default su-tabs-mobile-stack\" data-active=\"1\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-anchor-in-url=\"no\"><div class=\"su-tabs-nav\"><span class=\"\" data-url=\"\" data-target=\"blank\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Causes of failures<\/span><span class=\"\" data-url=\"\" data-target=\"blank\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Symptoms of failure<\/span><span class=\"\" data-url=\"\" data-target=\"blank\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Troubleshooting<\/span><\/div><div class=\"su-tabs-panes\"><div class=\"su-tabs-pane su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" data-title=\"Causes of failures\">\n<p>Select the tabs below to learn about some of the reasons a firmware update might fail.<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-accordion su-u-trim\">\n<div class=\"su-spoiler su-spoiler-style-fancy su-spoiler-icon-plus su-spoiler-closed\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-anchor-in-url=\"no\"><div class=\"su-spoiler-title\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><span class=\"su-spoiler-icon\"><\/span>Update timed out<\/div><div class=\"su-spoiler-content su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n<div class=\"su-note\"  style=\"border-color:#bcc3cd;border-radius:5px;-moz-border-radius:5px;-webkit-border-radius:5px;\"><div class=\"su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" style=\"background-color:#d6dde7;border-color:#ffffff;color:#305d8c;border-radius:5px;-moz-border-radius:5px;-webkit-border-radius:5px;\">\n<ul>\n<li>For all \t\t<a\t\t\t\thref=\"javascript:void(0)\"\n\t\t\t\tclass=\"sg-show-popup sgpb-popup-id-17601\"\n\t\tdata-sgpbpopupid=\"17601\"\n\t\tdata-popup-event=\"click\"\n\t\t>\n\t\tcurrent &amp; legacy Room Alert &#8220;E&#8221; models,\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t firmware updates are applied over <strong>UDP port 69<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>For the Room Alert 32S, 12S &amp; 3S, firmware updates are applied over <strong>UDP port 6234<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>For the Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi, firmware updates are applied over <strong>TCP port 80<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>1. Ensure the appropriate port is unblocked in the firewall on the computer you&#8217;re using to perform the update. The update process will timeout if the port is blocked.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>This example shows a firewall rule for the Room Alert &#8220;E&#8221; models:<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Firewall.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12463\" src=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Firewall.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"128\" srcset=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Firewall.png 689w, https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Firewall-300x70.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2. Update your unit from a computer on the same subnet as the Room Alert Monitor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">If you are not on-site, we recommend: (a) establishing a remote connection to a computer that <em>is<\/em> on the same subnet, (b) installing Link, Device Discovery or Room Alert Manager on that local computer and (c) then performing the update.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"su-spoiler su-spoiler-style-fancy su-spoiler-icon-plus su-spoiler-closed\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-anchor-in-url=\"no\"><div class=\"su-spoiler-title\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><span class=\"su-spoiler-icon\"><\/span>.zip firmware file used instead of .upd<\/div><div class=\"su-spoiler-content su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n<div class=\"su-note\"  style=\"border-color:#bcc3cd;border-radius:5px;-moz-border-radius:5px;-webkit-border-radius:5px;\"><div class=\"su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" style=\"background-color:#d6dde7;border-color:#ffffff;color:#305d8c;border-radius:5px;-moz-border-radius:5px;-webkit-border-radius:5px;\">\n<p>If you perform an update through Room Alert Link or Room Alert Manager, you do not need to manually download any firmware files.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>When you perform a firmware update through Device Discovery, you must first download the firmware file from <a href=\"https:\/\/account.roomalert.com\/downloads\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RoomAlert.com<\/a>. The file should end in <strong>.upd<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Some browsers unfortunately change the .upd extension to .zip during download. If you download a .zip file, don&#8217;t use it; instead, please try the download again from a different browser so that you get it as a .upd. To perform the update successfully:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">1. Temporarily change your Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi password back to PASSWORD.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em>For instructions, please see <a href=\"https:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/12447\/how-to-set-a-password-on-your-room-alert-3-wi-fi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">How To Set A Password On Your Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">2. Perform the update.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">3. Change your Room Alert 3 Wi-Fi password back to your custom value.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"su-tabs-pane su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" data-title=\"Symptoms of failure\">\n<p>If you see any of the below symptoms after trying to update your device&#8217;s firmware, it may indicate that the firmware update process failed. If it appears that the device is in a state of normal operation, check if the device can be discovered in Link, Device Discovery or Room Alert Manager.<\/p>\n<p>3. If the update fails again, check the update.log file to further diagnose the issue.<\/p>\n<p>5.
